Stretching is not BDSM

stretching with Jekaterina Rekap

A photo with a whip might catch your attention, but in fact I’m talking about stretching – and the main message is simple: Stretching is not BDSM. In my stretching classes, pain is not part of the process. On the contrary, we work with the body, not against it.

In my classes, there are no punishments where pain is part of the process. On the contrary, we work with the body, not against it.

For many years, stretching was associated with forcing young gymnasts into splits through tears. Since then, “pain equals progress” became a widespread belief. But the adult body does not work this way. In fact, pain-based stretching can do more harm than good.

Why pain-based stretching doesn’t work

  • Joints and ligaments in adults are already formed.

  • The central nervous system actively protects the body from pain.

  • Flexibility comes not from suffering, but from gradual adaptation at the muscular level. Anatomy proves this.

Benefits of stretching for pole dancers

If you practice pole exotic or pole fitness, stretching helps you:

  • gain greater range of motion,

  • improve body control,

  • release unnecessary tension,

  • make your movement more expressive.

Stretching is not BDSM - my personal approach

I personally added gentle mobility and stretching to my morning routine. Not to chase a goal, but simply to feel better in my body. No extremes, no sacrifices - just a natural part of life.

Yes, in the photo I am holding a whip. But in class, you’ll find no punishment - only practice. Sometimes demanding, but always respectful and caring.
